DL Reynolds is a traditional oil painter living in a “plugged in” world. It’s a world that has traded tradition for ease. While no one is immune to the amenities of the modern world, he is less inspired by ease than by tradition.
DL believes in creating his pieces from the ground up. He grinds the pigment to create his own oil paints and prepares his own panels and canvases. His art education has taken a non-traditional path, eschewing a formal art degree in order to train alongside teachers across the country. He is primarily a self-taught artist using the traditional oil painting techniques of the masters. He is influenced by the works of George Inness, Ilya Repin, and Rembrandt. While at times allegorical, he endeavors to create portraits of memories using collections of items and places. In this crazy, fast-paced world, he paints the quiet stories.
DL currently resides steps away (319 steps to be exact!) from the beautiful Puget Sound, where he continues to be inspired by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest landscape. When he is not standing in front of his easel to capture those images, he enjoys spending time with his lovely wife Lynn and two Great Danes Jude and Maurice.
